Cervical Dilation

Here is an illustration I created to make the invisible visible: the opening of the cervix during labor.
Cervical dilation is sometimes a rather abstract concept, and one that can cause anxiety in some.
Each fruit represents a stage of dilation, from 1 to 10 cm — from the very beginning until baby arrives.

The normality of each stage,

The need for rest, then movement,

The letting go necessary for transition,

To then arrive at the adrenaline of physiological pushing, followed by the first meeting (no need for coaching/directives for pushing! The body knows what it needs to do, and will do it itself, if given the chance).

Also useful for midwives, doulas, and other perinatal professionals to offer visualization and introspection tools to their clients.
