• This birth preparation illustration is a downloadable PDF file that you can print on paper or keep as a memo on your cell phone.

Here is an illustration I created to make the invisible visible: the opening of the cervix during labor.
Cervical dilation is a concept that can sometimes be quite abstract and a source of anxiety for some.
Each fruit represents a stage of dilation, from 1 to 10 cm — from the very beginning until the baby arrives.

The normality of each stage,

The need for rest, then movement,

The letting go necessary for the transition,

To then arrive at the adrenaline of physiological pushing, followed by the first meeting (no need for coaching/directives for pushing! The body knows what it needs to do, and will do it on its own, if given the chance).

Also useful for midwives, doulas and other perinatal professionals to offer visualization and introspection tools to their clients.
