The fourth trimester is the natural continuation of pregnancy; an "ex-utero" phase that is intense on physical, emotional, and psychological levels.
Transitioning from woman to mother, from a couple to a family, and forging all these new connections. including the relationship with this new version of yourself, is a profound experience.
Your body is recovering from pregnancy and birth, producing milk, and has immense needs for energy, rest, and gentle care.
In this illustration, I provide information about these changes, offer tips for relief (for the perineum, milk coming in, etc.), and provide reassurance.
You will also find many useful pointers for this period, covering everything from postpartum bleeding (lochia) and the "baby blues" to afterpains.
